The Blurred Line is a documentary film
that goes behind the scenes of the international professional video game league known as "Championship Gaming Series", or
CGS. Founded in 2006, the CGS is a true professional league in its infancy; its goal to be comparable to the NFL, NBA, or
Major League Baseball. Currently, it can boast an annual payout of over $5 million dollars, and is sponsored by major corporations
such as Microsoft, Dell, Mountain Dew and many others, and features league broadcasts on DirecTV, announcers, referees, a
league commissioner, and franchises in major cities throughout the U.S. - as well as other parts of North America - and also
in Europe, Asia, and South America. Each franchise, representing a particular metropolitan city, such as the Chicago Chimera
or San Francisco Optix, is replete with general managers, coaches, and of course, a pool of immensely talented team of "virtual
athletes", selected from an an annual draft - this year's held recently in July at the Playboy Mansion.
Our film focuses on the actual
gamers - the players themselves - and their lives, both in relation to CGS and also away from league competition. We hope
to gain insight into the blossoming world of international competitive gaming from both a player's perspective as well as
from the point of view of a spectator. The phenomenon of global, virtual computer gaming has evolved into a way of bringing
different people and cultures together in a way that's never been done before. Our documentary is a peek into this international
community that by all accounts will only become bigger and more influential as time goes on. Our goal is to explore how this
technology and community can play an important and positive role in helping to shape future cultural interaction in the face
of a shrinking global community.
Starting in November 2007, we will begin shooting gamers for
a series of interviews, as well as coaches, managers, and other individuals associated with the CGS. All of this will lead
up to the World Championship event, the Grand Slam Finals in Southern California in December of 2007. After the event, we
will be following a select few gamers over the next several months and produce a final cut based on our findings.
